From application to onboarding, learn about the steps and what to expect when becoming a new board member.

Application
Interested in applying? Use our open call application form.
We accept and review applications on an ongoing basis. If your skills, perspectives or experience align with a vacancy on a health regulatory college board, you will be screened through to the next stage.

Assessment
We assess candidates based on the strategic needs of the health professional regulatory college and in accordance with our policies.
To assess your skills, knowledge, perspective and understanding of the role of a board member, you’ll be asked to participate in one or more of the following:
- Participate in an online interview
- Have a phone conversation
- Answer additional questions

Verification of eligibility
If you advance through the assessment stage, you will be asked to provide at least two references and to complete a personal attestation form. This form helps us to confirm the information you provided is true and complete. Read our policies (PDF, 284KB) for more information about our due diligence.

Post-assessment
If your skills match the needs of a health professional regulatory college, and a position is available, you may be recommended for a board appointment. If there is not a current vacancy and your skills are a good fit, you’ll be added to a pool of eligible candidates. Candidates from this pool may be recommended in the future when a suitable position becomes available.

Appointment
Once the Minister of Health approves your appointment to a board, the Oversight Office will send you a letter with information about your appointed term length and other details.

Onboarding
If you’re a newly appointed board member, we will contact you and provide onboarding information about your role on the board, our office and what to expect. Each health professional regulatory college also has its own process for onboarding new board members.
