Our role in board member appointments
There are 6 health professional regulatory colleges that oversee 25 regulated health professions in B.C. Each college has a board that makes strategic decisions.
The Oversight Office runs processes to recruit candidates for B.C.’s 6 health professional regulatory college boards. We use an equitable, merit-based process that looks at skills and experience when recommending board members.
The Oversight Office makes recommendations to the Minister of Health, who has the final decision making authority to appoint board members.

We accept applications for board member consideration on an ongoing basis.
Please read about the application process and apply online to be considered for current and future board opportunities.
The role of a board member
Each board and its members are there to:
- Help shape how health professionals are regulated in the public interest
- Set strategic direction for the oversight of health professionals to ensure they deliver high-quality health care and practice safely and ethically
- Protect the public from harm and discrimination within the scope of the board’s duties
- Ensure the health professional regulatory college follows the guiding principles of the HPOA
- Contribute to strategic and financial decisions of the health professional regulatory college
Compensation
Board members are compensated for their time, which can include meetings and preparation. Rates can vary, and more information can be found on each health professional regulatory college’s website.
Time commitment
Boards meet at least four times a year, either in person or virtually for one or two-day sessions. Preparation and prework is required and may take several hours. Members must check and respond to board related emails regularly. Some travel may be required.
