About us
Our independent office oversees health professional regulatory colleges to increase accountability, transparency, and accessibility in the interest of the public. Within the Superintendent Office is a Tribunal that holds disciplinary hearings after a complaint and investigation has been made against a regulated health professional to determine disciplinary action. The Office is accountable to the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) which is the legislation that establishes the Office.
Who we are
Sherri Young has been appointed by Cabinet as the Superintendent to lead the Office. In addition, Benson Cowan has been appointed by the BC Minister of Health as the Director of Discipline to manage the Discipline Tribunal.

As we establish the Superintendent’s Office, we are looking for candidates for:

Current regulatory status
Although the Superintendent Office has been established, and the Superintendent and Director of Discipline have been appointed, the HPOA is not yet fully in force. The HPOA will be brought into force by regulation of Cabinet on April 1, 2026 at which time this office will be fully operational. Until that time, the Health Professions Act (HPA) remains the health profession regulatory framework in British Columbia.
Current role
Currently, and until the HPOA comes into force, the Superintendent Office is not authorized to oversee regulatory colleges or conduct disciplinary hearings. The Superintendent Office is being set up and is unable to take any oversight actions including the receipt of oversight complaints.

If you have a concern about a registration decision, or about how a regulatory college has handled a complaint, please contact the Health Professions Review Board (HPRB).
